James Vincent McMorrow Reinvents His Sound with "How to Waste a Moment"

The most engaging artists are those who reinvent their sound, bend the limits our minds have built around their previous work; those who release a new piece that shocks our system and seems left-field yet leaves us wanting more come the last note. And so we listen to it again..and again whereupon we realize it isn't left-field; it's growth. It's the natural flow of emotion, evolution and maturity.

It's artistry.

"...life to me is tempo, it’s rarely slow."

There are a few of these musicians who come to mind as of late: Milo Greene, San Fermin, Alabama Shakes, Justin Timberlake, Pink (with You+Me), Diane Birch, Florence and the Machine...and with today's release, James Vincent McMorrow.

This morning, he shared a new song, "How to Waste a Moment." It's a more uptempo track compared to his other work, with electronic elements that set a vibe parallel to that of Chet Faker, Active Child, or James Blake.

In posting the new track, McMorrow wrote:

Wasted moments. We had a lot of them. Even though I believe I’ve done the right thing at the time, when I look back I realize I actually made my life a lot more difficult. Not an uncommon tale. I rarely learn anything from the mistakes, in fact if I went back I’d probably do the same stuff all over again.
But I am trying. I’m trying to be better, and more honest. I was thinking about those wasted moments one night while I was working on my next record. I started writing this song, finished it in front of my drum kit the next day. I already had all my songs for the new record, this felt like something different, born out of the same ideas but for different reasons.
I recorded it with tempo because life to me is tempo, it’s rarely slow. This song is the connect from where I was, to where I’m going to be very soon.

Honesty, courage, and heart; it's a winning combination.

Thanks for the inspiration, Mr. McMorrow.
