Tiny Desk Concert: Aurora

In June, I wrote about Aurora, a 19 year-old Norwegian singer who I unexpectedly came upon in 2014 while attending New York City's CMJ Music Marathon. From the very first verse, I was drawn in and from the looks of NPR's latest Tiny Desk Concert, I wasn't the only one in the crowd that night completely taken by this new voice.

As Bob Boilen says of that evening's CMJ set, singing "...appeared so new to her that each note, and each hand gesture accompanying each note, seemed like a discovery and an adventure for the singer." And he's absolutely right. It wasn't just her voice but her slow and jagged movements, her wide eyes of innocent wonderment that borderline possessedness, and her soft, vulnerable nature that blazed and burnished me.

Above is Aurora's Tiny Desk Concert featuring songs "Runaway," "Murder Song (5, 4, 3, 2, 1)" and "Running with the Wolves." I absolutely love the guitar on "Murder Song (5, 4, 3, 2, 1)." It's ominously comforting.

I look forward to her album which is said to release in early 2016.
