Track of the Day | Margaret Glaspy "Memory Street"
On Friday evening, I headed up to 62nd Street and Columbus Ave. for the Lincoln Center Out of Doors concert series, which on this night featured M.Ward and opening act Margaret Glaspy. While seeing M.Ward was fun, it was the opening act that drew me uptown.
Glaspy released her debut album Emotions and Math in June and it's been one of my favorite albums of the year, thus far. Midway through the album sits "Memory Street," a nostalgic reflection and therapeutic rumination on a former relationship fueled by angst, hurt and the wisdom to resolve that he isn't worthy of brain space. It's got grit and rasp; rough, unpolished guitar; and a swig of restraint chased by growling release.
I don't dare
Walk down memory street
Why remember
All the times I took forever to forget?
She's one to keep your ears on.
