Case/Lang/Veirs Tear It Up On A Tuesday

On Tuesday, I saw Neko Case, k.d. lang, and Laura Veirs (collectively known as case/lang/veirs) at Celebrate Brooklyn, Prospect Park's outdoor concert series. My oh my, what a show! They had such a natural chemistry on stage, the emotion put into each song heartfelt, and their harmonies so rich. It was one of those moments that knocks on your heart whispering "this is something special; embrace it."

The last time (and first time) I saw Neko Case was last summer when she performed at Brooklyn's Northside Festival. It was the night I fell in love with her. Not only did she put on one hell of a show, but her stage banter was hilarious, sharing stories about the leopard leggings she sewed herself and how they gave her a massive camel toe. While no personal wardrobe stories were shared on Tuesday, there was no shortage of witty remarks and wisecracks from the band, at one point the banter skirting on raunchy. The crowd loved it.

The set was a mixture of tracks off their self-titled debut album case/lang/veirs, along with songs from their solo careers. It was quite a treat hearing the other ladies on those songs. One of my absolute favorites of the night was Laura Veirs' "July Flame." I've been singing it in my head non-stop since the show. Another great one from Case's collection was "Man." As you'll see in the video, k.d. lang is quite the dancer. That lady didn't stand still all night, jumping, twirling, sashaying, hip-shaking and at one point, swimming the breast stroke across stage.

After the show, while walking out, I overheard a woman who looked to be in her late 50s talking to her friend:

"...she's been touring all over the world! And then I heard she was coming here, to Brooklyn of all places. And I said to myself 'I'm gonna do it. I'm just gonna buy two tickets. I have to see her live.'"

I don't know which of the three ladies she was referring to though, really, it doesn't matter. The sentiment holds true for each.
