Rhye | Open

As happens sometimes, you're going about your day, playing music as inconsequential background noise when suddenly a melody flows over the sound waves and into your fingertips; shoulders swaying, your focus completely dismantled.

The song was "Open," by Rhye, a music duo comprised of Canadian musician Milosh and Danish songwriter and producer Robin Hannibal.

It's a smooth, calm and romantic track off their first and (currently) only album, Woman, which is a compilation of ten could-be singles, in my opinion. It's a stellar album that relaxes every muscle in your body while simultaneously itching every bone to get up and dance.

I wanna make this plain Oh, I know your faded
But stay, don't close your eyes

A few months a go, I was out walking around New York City while listening to this song, and I walked by this wall. I stopped and just stared at this work while the song played through. The two just clicked.

I love the visceral impact of song and visuals together, whether it be of complimentary or contrasting elements. A lot of the photos I take are inspired music and when I saw this graffiti work, well, I just had to snap a shot.

If you enjoy Harrington's style, I highly suggest taking a look at some of his other work. He's an incredible artist.

Tonight, Rhye is playing with Neko Case at Brooklyn's Northside Festival and I'm stoked. If you have a ticket, perhaps I'll see you there. I'll be the gal in the floral kimono dancing my soul to happiness.
